coffee conversations

Coffee with Ameena #5

If we were having coffee, I will tell you that If I had a dollar for every time a patient mistook me for my sister, I would have some pretty good amount of money by now. My sister and I both work in the same hospital. It’s gotten to the point where the patients, armed with their folders, argue with me or look at me like a liar, when I tell them, “It was my sister”. I’m like- “don’t you think I know myself and my handwriting more than you do. If I told you it was my sister, IT WAS MY SISTER“… sigh.

If were having coffee, I will tell you I have used so many different natural remedies for premenstrual syndrome and menstrual cramps, including cutting off sugary foods, and I am yet to find one which eliminates the need for medication. I have begun to think that my uterus has a mind of its own, deciding how bad it’s going on to hurt me based on how petty it feels each month.

If we were having coffee, I will tell you that I am hoping to assist in my first surgery tomorrow. It’s a heniorrhaphy, so if everything goes well, it shouldn’t take too long. If we were having coffee, I will tell you that my favorite part of working in the hospital is being in the outpatient department, getting to talk to the patients, interacting with them, listening to their woes and of course stories, and just being able to give them a reason to smile.

That’s my sister (with the red arrow) assisting in her surgery…

If we were having coffee, I will tell you that this past weekend was the most peaceful I’ve had in a long time. It was perfect, quiet and I slept like a baby for those two days. I learnt one thing this weekend and that is, peace of mind is one thing that should never be compromised. I turned 23 this last weekend and I just have to say this, my friends are the most thoughtful gift givers.

If we were having coffee, I will tell you that I have been having all kinds of cravings for the past few days. First I dreamt of pizza and woke up before I could eat a bite (such a cruel world, I know). Then, I dreamt of ice cream and pizza again a few days ago, and last night, I dreamt of this chocolate filled doughnut by @donutfairy_ (on instagram). I will remind you that I am living with my grandma at the moment where these junks are not accessible, well except for in my dreams of course.

If we were having coffee, I will thank you for taking the time to join me on another coffee date. I will ask you what you would like us talk about on our next coffee date as well.

Do share what you would us to talk about in our next coffee convo in the comments section below.

Wishing you lots of love, laughter and coffee

  1. If we were having coffee/tea, I’d wish you luck on assisting in your first surgery!! That’s a huge milestone and I am so proud of you, Ameena! I would also wish you happy birthday again! Here’s to the best year of your life so far 🙂 💜

  2. Happy Belated Birthday sweet Ameena!!
How exciting to be performing your first surgery! I bet you really do bless every patient that you get to interact with and bring them smiles!
Do you and your sister look that much alike? 🙂
Ugh about your monthly cramps. It can be very frustrating I know!
So glad you got to really relax this past weekend! Time for yourself and relaxation is so important. We all need time to breathe! 🙂 ❤

  3. If we were having coffee, I’ll tell you how coke subsides my menstrual cramps for a while before it decides to come back again. I end up loosing count of the number of coke I’ve drank . I’ll also tell you how I mistook your sister for you on your birthday.
